The wonderful photographer and winter caretaker on Star Island, Alexandra de Steigeur, used the term "Oceanic Effect" to describe the sensation of vastness that overcomes her when she is sailing or alone on the island during the winter months. It makes one feel incredible small in relation to the immense expanse of the water and sky. It puts one in one's proper relationship with Nature...
